Here’s a step-by-step guide for creating due dates for assignments on Blackboard, including setting up a 2% late deduction per day.
IMPORTANT: If your course has been copied over from a prior semester, be sure to adjust all of the course due dates immediately. When this step is missed, the dates from the previous semester get integrated into the students calendar and cause a lot of confusion.
If you already created the assignment/quiz: By the specific assignment, select the “Edit” option by selecting the up arrow next to the assignment name.
If you are currently working on the assignment/quiz: You will already be on the edit page.
Scroll down to “Due Dates”.
Set the Due Date and time when the assignment is expected to be completed.
Scroll down to “Availability” to control when students can access the assignment.
Ensure the “Make the Assignment Available” checkbox is selected.
Set Display After and Display Until dates to control visibility.
Then, click “Submit” to save the changes.
On the Assignment/quiz navigate to the “edit” page (as shown above).
Scroll down to “Grading”.
Enter the Points Possible.
To set a late submission penalty:
Unfortunately, Blackboard does not have a built-in feature for automatic late penalties. You will need to communicate the penalty to students in the instructions and manually deduct 2% per day when grading.
Enter “2” in the deduction field.
Then, select “Submit” to save the changes.
